FUJIFILM GFX50S and GFX100 with HAL220

The only 220° fisheye lens for medium format cameras

The sensor size of the GFX50S and GFX100 is 43.8 mm x 32.9 mm.
The Entaniya Fisheye HAL 220 PL has an image circle size of 29.8mm (at 8mm focal length) and can be used as a 220° circuler fisheye lens.

Since the GFX100 is a 100 million pixel ultra high resolution camera, it can be used for star photography where a lot of circumferential fisheye lenses are used, time lapse for dome images, and all-round recording applications.

Attaching a PL mount lens to a GFX mount camera

The Entaniya Fisheye HAL 220 PL is a PL mount lens. The camera is a G mount, which is the mount format of FUJIFILM medium format cameras, and it cannot be mounted as it is.

Use the Mount Converter (PL-G) to attach a PL mount lens to a G mount camera.

PL-G Mount Adapter

PL mounts are not commonly used for photographic purposes as there are many cinema-type lenses, but since there are many lenses with a unique flavor, they are often used by people who are particular about the individuality of their photographs.
There are a variety of adapters to convert from PL mount to G mount.

This time, I used a SHOTEN mount adapter.

The Entaniya Fisheye HAL 220 PL mount lens could be attached to the FUJIFILM GFX series without any problems. The balance of camera and lens size is also good.

The Entaniya Fisheye HAL 220 PL is a lens whose image circle size can be changed with the use of spacers. It can be used as a 220-degree circular fisheye lens at 8 mm, which is the largest image circle for medium format sensor cameras.

Since the sensor size is the same for both the FUJIFILM GFX50S and GFX100, the way the circumferential fisheye image is captured is also the same result. The difference in color is due to the white balance setting.

FUJIFILM GFX100

The FUJIFILM GFX series is a camera with a medium-format sensor that can take high-resolution photos, with the GFX50S having 50 million pixels and the GFX100 having an ultra-high resolution of 100 million pixels.

The GFX50S also has an amazing resolution, but the GFX100 has such an amazing resolution that when you look at a cropped photo, no one would think it was taken with a circuler fisheye lens.

It is simply amazing to see the edges of the window sills of the building in the distance, even though a small part of the center of the image has been enlarged.

360° panoramic photo 12800 x 6400

A fisheye lens is also used for 360° panoramic photography, and while a wider viewing angle of the lens means fewer shots and less stitching work, it also has the problem of lower resolution.

But with the FUJIFILM GFX100 and the Entaniya Fisheye HAL 220 PL, it is possible to create high resolution 360° panoramic photos of 12800 x 6400px from two photos.

If you can reduce the number of shots, the stitching process will be reduced and the efficiency will be improved. It is also very useful for shooting in places where there are many moving objects such as cars and people.

Zenith Photography

The best part of using a curculer fisheye lens is taking zenith shots with the lens pointing directly upward. (It’s also good to take an aerial shot with a helicopter pointing directly down.

This sample was taken with the lens pointed at the zenith (handheld).

The Entaniya Fisheye HAL 220 PL is a fisheye lens designed with VR applications in mind, so it is designed to provide sharp resolution to the periphery.

This is a cropped image from the 180° viewing angle of a typical fisheye lens to the outside of the image circle. By the way, 220° is the area where there is no blue blur in the surroundings. (The blue blot is the outside of 220°.)

Demand for ultra-wide-angle fisheye lenses is growing due to high resolution cameras

A wide-angle lens has the advantage of being able to capture a wide area with a single camera, but the disadvantage is that a wide-angle lens can’t capture details.

However, in recent years, cameras for video and still images have become increasingly large-format and high-resolution sensors, enabling them to produce higher-quality, higher-definition images and photographs.

As a result, demand for wide-angle lenses has increased as the problem of the inability of fisheye lenses to express details, which was a weakness of wide-angle lenses, has been cleared.

The benefits of higher resolution are being considered for VR photography, all-round recording, tunnels, sewage pipe surveys, and aerial photography.

The use of wide-angle fisheye lenses is likely to increase in the future.

Customization for Phase ONE is also possible.

More and more people are asking us to install the original medium format cameras such as the Phase One.

Basically, PL mount lenses are not compatible with Phase One mounts, but the Entaniya Fisheye HAL 220 can be mounted on a Phase One by customizing the mount. (Make to order/quote required)
