Super-wide fisheye lenses and high-speed cameras

High-speed camera and sensor size

High-speed images can be used as slow-motion images.

To shoot at high speed, the camera frame rate must be high, and the sensor scan speed must be high.

For this reason, cameras with small sensor sizes and low-resolution cameras can generally shoot at higher speeds.

There is a camera which can shoot at high speed even with a large sensor. However, many use only part of the sensor (cropping) to speed up scanning, resulting in a narrower angle of view than normal settings.

That’s why it was considered difficult to shoot wide-angle images with high-speed shootin

But advances in sensors and technology have led to cameras that can shoot at high speeds without cropping, even with larger sensors like the full-frame and Super 35.

We tested the Enbaniya Fisheye HAL series that super-wide-angle fisheye lenses to shoot super-wide-angle and high-speed images that are considered difficult to capture.

High-speed camera Phantom

For this test, we used a high-speed camera from Phantom.

One is “V 2640” (Sensor size: 27.6 mm x 26.3 mm), which shoots at 6,600 fps with FHD, and the other is “VEO4KS”, which shoots at 4K/938 fps with the Super 35 sensor.

Nobbytech, the exclusive distributor of Phantom high-speed cameras in Japan, cooperated in the shooting.

Phantom V2640

The Phantom V 2640 is a high-end, high-speed camera capable of shooting at 6,600 fps, the fastest in the world.

The sensor size (Sensor size: 27.6 mm x 26.3 mm) is close to the full-size format.

The size of the sensor is close to a square, so it goes well with a fisheye lens.

The lens can be attached.

Please note that the rear lens unit of Entire Fisheye HAL 250 EF 4.3 and HAL 200 6.0 will interfere with the inside of the camera.

When using Enbaniya Fisheye HAL 250 EF 6.0, the circumference of 250 degrees fits neatly in the sensor.
Even with Entire Fisheye HAL 220 PL, a 220 degree circular image can be obtained by adjusting the focus.

Phantom VEO 4KS

The Phantom VEO4KS has a variable mount and is compatible with PL/EF/F/B4 (option), so it is also possible to attach a PL Mount 220 degree fisheye HAL 220 PL.

Using Enbaniya Fisheye HAL 220 PL, a slight vignetting at the corners produces an ultra-wide angle image that covers most of the sensor and is nearly 200 degrees horizontal.

FT-ONE/FOR.A

We tested the installation of the Japanese video equipment manufacturer, fro-A, on the high-speed camera FT-ONE.
This project was carried out with the cooperation of tectum, an equipment dealer in Germany.

FT-ONE is a camera that can shoot at 860 fps in 4K and supports PL mount.

The sensor size is equivalent to Super 35, and if you use the 220 degree super wide angle fisheye HAL 220 PL, the image circle will cover all the sensors and you will get super wide angle high speed image of about 210 degree diagonal.
